$1 Fish and Chips

Yes, you heard me right! There is a special promotion of $1 fish and chips at Fish and Co.

All you have to do is go to the Fish and Co Earth Hour promotion and spread the message and they will give you a $1 coupon which entitles you to a $1 fish and chips (terms and conditions applies).

You can only use one coupon per table though.

I used the voucher today and managed to grab a nice pan of fish and chips at $1.00. Never mind that the total bill added up to over $20 in the end, the feeling of getting a discount or good deal always feels good.

Everybody in the restaurant were literally using the coupon, waving the printed sheet of paper in their hands. I saw big groups of people that even split themselves into smaller groups so that they could maximise the number of coupons they had. Some came in earlier and ordered separately before their friends joined them at nearby tables and they then proceeded to combine their tables. The waiters and waitresses seemed a bit overwhelmed by the various methods used though.

Anyway, I was quite surprised to realise that this ongoing promotion was actually part of the Earth Hour promotion. Perhaps the word should be "amused". I can imagine the Green Peace activists flipping in their chairs when they see the amount of paper that customers have used to print the coupons for the discount. Talk about saving the earth =)

Well, fish and chips at Fish and Co is always good and at $1 per pan, it is an offer not to be missed!

Cheapest Petrol in Singapore

I read a news article that says petrol prices have been increased again.

Well, that sounds like bad news to all drivers.

But the truth is ....there is a petrol station which has not increased its price of petrol yet!!

Cheapest Petrol in Singapore

Based on the information given, it seems like Singapore Petroleum Company is offering the cheapest petrol in Singapore right now. The rest of the petrol stations have already increased their pump prices by 4 cents recently.

Know of any cheap petrol around in Singapore?

StarHub Cable TV - Upgraded to Basic Plus

Over the new year, I discovered a promotion by Starhub that allowed me to upgrade my basic group channels to the basic plus at no additional cost for 6 months. Finding that this was too good an opportunity to miss, I immediately signed up for it through the telephone.

Within a few days, I got all my Basic Plus Channels on my Starhub Cable TV.

This included ALL these channels like:
  1. Crime & Investigation Network
  2. NatGeo Adventure
  3. NatGeo Wild
  4. AXN Beyond
  5. Animax
  6. Channel V
  7. FoxCrime
  8. Sci Fi
  9. Universal Channel
  10. BBC Entertainment
  11. BBC Lifestyle
  12. FX
  13. MGM
  14. The Style Network
  15. Turner Classic Movies

Wow, a total of 15 extra channels for no additional cost!

Of course, I am sure Starhub was just interested in retaining me as my customer after they lost the rights to the ESPN channel to SingTel.

Anyway, it was too good a deal to miss for paying $25.68 only. I get the additional 15 channels to my existing basic group.

Switching my News Basic Group to Lifestyle Basic Group

I also realised that I did not watch much of the news so I switched my news basic group for the lifestyle basic group. Yes, you should do the switch too if you are not watching the news.

So my 3 basic groups now are Education, Entertainment and Lifestyle.

Just a question to readers:

What are your basic groups that you subscribe too for StarHub Cable TV?

Do you intend to switch over to SingTel's Mio TV?

Shell Escape Card

I finally applied for a Shell Escape card. That is after many years of driving and pumping petrol at Shell petrol stations.

I do not know why I always had the misconception that the Shell Escape Card works like a credit card. I finally found out that it doesn't!

Instead, it is just a card to collect points which I can then redeem free gifts and vouchers for.

My oh my....I have missed out on so many points. Wasted if you ask me..... Really silly of me not to clarify with people.

On average, I pump around 40litres of petrol per week. Multiply by 52 weeks and then by 3 years.. I have basically lost lots of points.

I have my eyes on a $20 Ben and Jerry's voucher. I think I should be able to get it in 20 weeks.

Oh well, the good thing about it is that I have time 20 weeks to burn some fats before redeeming my points.

BookFest @ Singapore 2009

For those of you living in Singapore who missed the Penguin Book Fair held at Singapore Expo recently, here is another chance to grab books cheap. (I am not sure whether the prices will be as cheap as that at the Penguin Book Fair though.)

The BookFest @ Singapore 2009 will be held at the Suntec Convention and exhibition Centre from 11 December 2009 to 20 December 2009. This is organised by Popular so I guess you can expect to see the same range of books that you find in Popular and Harris bookstores.

The only thing is that since it is held at Suntec, I guess the rental of the place will be slightly higher and that might result in the books not being priced as attractively as at the Penguin Book Fair.

At the Penguin Book Fair, I managed to grab a grand total of 7 books. (Prices ranged from $5 to $10) They are the following books:

1. Hot, Flat and Crowded by Thomas L. Friedman
2. The Three Trillion Dollar War by Josephy Stiglitz and Linda Bilmes
3. First, Break All The Rules by Marcus Buckingham
4. The Last Tycoons by William D.Conan
5. The Assault on Reason by Al Gore
6. Fateful Choices by Ian Kershaw
7. The Walmart Effect by Charles Fishman

I guess these books will last me all the way till end 2010 when the next Penguin book fair comes again. I will then swipe up all the books that I hope to be able to get at a huge discount.

You can view the site to BookFest 2009 here.
